Despite the apparent speed at which young players grow and move through sizes, we believe fervently that quality should start in junior bats and not only be the preserve of proven seniors. In junior cricket finding the right size, weight and balance is simply crucial in converting natural skill and enthusiasm into real commitment to the game. A bat which is too heavy or badly made will not nurture talent or inspire. A bat which is well pressed, balanced and finished can be transforming.
Junior bats can often be merchandise: normally mass produced, overseas-made replicas of the bats endorsed by players. At Salix we have a totally different approach, which is why we can never make enough every season, and bats like the Pod Harrow have become iconic. Our junior bats are machined, pressed, shaped and finished in our workshops and again represent a unique and incredibly labour intensive product. Every single bat still passes through the same Salix craftsmen's hands many times over to amplify quality and performance. They offer real value and inspiration for young players.
When the signature silver labelling of a Salix flashes during a school, village or county match, the chances are that a young player is enjoying real bat making and discovering the passion for cricket that we feel in making the bats.
